A Chain Chomp is a round black enemy with sharp teeth. Whenever it crosses paths with someone, it charges at them. They are commonly found areas below ground. Several different species appear in Paper Mario (series). In Paper Mario, one Chain Chomp nicknamed Chompy appears alongside Tutankoopa. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door several Chain Chomps called Red Chomps are fighters in the Glitz Pit. Normal Chomps are also found in the Palace of Shadow and the Pit of 100 Trials. In Super Paper Mario, Chain Chomps are found inside The Dotwood Tree and Fort Francis. Several also appear in the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials and new species called Dark Chomps also appear in the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials. In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, a Chain Chomp appears in the final boss fight with Bowser, and can only be defeated with a Tail (Sticker). There is also a mini-boss called the Big Chain Chomp. In Paper Mario: Color Splash, Chain Chomps pull the chariots that Iggy Koopa and his minions ride. However, they cannot be fought. A Chain Chomp named Princess also appears in the Orange Region.
- There is an unused version called the Rusty Chomp in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
- In early screenshots of Paper Mario: Sticker Star, it was shown that Chain Chomp partner was originally supposed to accompany Mario and fight with him. It is unclear why it was removed.
