Not to be confused with the Koopas of the same name from Super Paper Mario; see here

Dark Koopas are purple-shelled Koopas that live in dark places (hence their name). They have higher attack power and HP than their normal counterparts and are quite possibly the strongest of all Koopa Troopas. Unlike most Koopas, Dark Koopas are able to return to their feet immediately after being attacked.

History[]

Paper Mario[]

Dark Koopas were first introduced in Paper Mario, where they are only found in the Toad Town Pipes. They have the ability to perform the Dizzy Shell move which results in Mario becoming afflicted with the Dizzy status. Their attacks are similar to Kooper's; Dark Koopas, however, often attack from nearby, rather than launching themselves across the battlefield. Their Dizzy Shell attacks can also be anticipated, as Dark Koopas will grin and shuffle their feet before executing a Dizzy Shell attack.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]

Dark Koopas are seen once again in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, this time located in the Pit of 100 Trials. These Rogueport versions, however, do not have the ability to perform an attack resulting in Mario becoming dizzy (this attack is used by their close "cousins," the Shady Koopas). Their attack power is higher than their Mushroom Kingdom counterparts, however, making them much more dangerous in Rogueport than they were previously. The Rogueport Dark Koopas can be found on floors 31 - 49 of the Pit of 100 Trials (along with their relatives, the Dark Paratroopas).

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown why Dark Koopas wear shades, particularly considering the dark environments they are usually found in.
  • They are one of the strongest types of Koopas, along with the Shady Koopas.
