Goombella is an aspiring archaeologist, appearing in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. She was one of Professor Frankly's students at U Goom, and she is the first to join Mario to find the Crystal Stars after he saves her from Lord Crump. She attacks by headbonking enemies, and can use Tattle ability to find out enemies' weaknesses. In the field, she can give Mario information about characters and places. She constantly travels around with Mario and the rest of his friends in the quest to get the Crystal Stars, being an important character, having learned the identity behind the map given to Mario. She could be considered as the brainy one of the group.

Goombella is a very abrasive character, who is often straightforward with other characters. She speaks in a very casual tone, even when meeting up with Mario. She will often break the fourth wall throughout the game, resulting in her accidentally speaking to the player. It is hinted that she has romantic feelings for Mario.
