Paper Mode is the second of four paper abilities Mario learns in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This ability makes Mario paper-thin, allowing him to go through narrow passages he normally could not. Mario learned Paper Mode by opening up the Black Chest Demon of the Toad hero in Hooktail Castle. The demon "cursed" Mario with Paper Mode, even though the ability helps him on his adventure.
