Yold Ruins is the setting of Chapter 1-4, and the resting place of the Orange Pure Heart. The Ruins are found in the Yold Desert, and are entered by pressing - and 1 on a pedestal in front of the entrance. The area is full of enemies, traps, and puzzles. Once Mario exits the ruins, he will find the guardian of the Orange Pure Heart (and boss of Chapter 1), Fracktail. Fracktail will recognize that Mario is one of the Four Heroes and allow him to pass, but Dimentio suddenly appears before he can do so. Dimentio manipulates Fracktail, and causes him to malfunction. This initiates a boss with him. Once Fracktail is defeated, Mario can enter the chamber containing the Pure Heart, along with an ancient sage named Merlumina.
